Chigiri-e art workshop

Traditional Chigiri-e technique by Sayo Watano

In this workshop, you will first sketch a motif with line drawing. Then you will color the sketch. Instead of paint, you will use paper to color it. This is called 'chigiri-e'(torn paper art). Originally, Japanese paper is used, but in the workshop, we will use familiar paper such as colored paper, newspaper, and wrapping paper.

In this workshop, you’ll select a pattern from a variety of prepared designs, transfer it onto fabric, and use Sashiko techniques to embroider it. This session focuses on making a coaster with Sashiko embroidery.
