Chigiri-e (Japanese Torn paper art) is an art that uses Japanese paper that has been popular in Japan since ancient times. It is made by tearing paper into small pieces by hand and pasting them onto a base paper using glue. If you don't have Japanese paper, you can use colored paper, wrapping paper, newspaper, etc. instead. Please watch the video below for detailed instructions on how to make it.

In this workshop, the instructor will prepare a rough sketch, and you will copy it and then paste colored paper onto it. The finished work can be used as a greeting card or postcard. Below is a short video of a sample work. https://youtube.com/shorts/F0uDXsbXCEU?si=tCviqisLmNTDNTs3
Although there are various theories, it is said that Chigiri-e was born in Japan as an aristocratic culture during the Heian period (700s AD) and became a popular art among the common people during the Edo period (17th-19th century).
